MJ DTNS: a measuring train for the overhead line

25.10.2026
For Správa železnic, NDCon LOGIC is converting two passenger coaches into one diagnostic unit. The unit will measure the overhead line, the wire above the track that supplies electric trains with power.

What the unit measures
The unit will check the height of the contact wire, its stagger and its wear. A thermal camera is part of the equipment.
Two cars
The measuring car is rebuilt from an intermediate passenger coach. The control car, with the driver's cab, also becomes the place where the crew lives and works.
Where the cars come from
The starting point is passenger coaches of the Viaggio Comfort platform.
The measuring car
The biggest change is the roof. It will be lowered along most of the length of the car. A viewing cabin will sit in the middle of the roof. A measuring pantograph will be at one end of the car and a supply pantograph at the other. Cameras, laser units and a thermal camera will measure the wire.
Inside, the car gets new wiring, measuring and supporting technology and a generator set that powers the unit independently. The interior is new.
The control car
Only the interior behind the driver's cab changes. It will have five living compartments, a meeting room, a kitchenette, a bathroom and a WC.
Speed
Správa železnic requires the unit to keep a maximum operating speed of 230 km/h.
